Surgical orthodontics is a type of orthodontic treatment indicated in the most severe cases that cannot be treated with braces alone. For these special patients we work closely with a specialized oral surgeon to determine the best customized treatment plan.
When is surgical orthodontics indicated?
Surgical orthodontics may be used when a patient is finished growing. For this reason, typically it is mostly indicated in adults. Usually, jaw growth is complete by age 16 in females and 18 in males. Surgical orthodontics is recommended when the jaws do not line up accurately, and a proper bite cannot be attained with braces or other appliances alone.
